Post Script:

After we thru-hiked the PCT in 2012, we returned to Boulder, Colorado, knowing we felt most at home with the nomad life. We had let the experience of thru-hiking 2,668 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail change us deeply.

We knew that being with each other -- the men we loved -- and having the new trail rise up before us was where we felt most grounded and most alive!  We no longer needed "all the stuff" we had in storage back "at home." So much stuff!

Dionysus took up his duties as General Manager at the Bitter Bar while Pan taught at the University of Colorado and Seano (a.k.a. "Moonman") wrote textbooks for top-ranked publishers.

Meanwhile, we conjured and conjured and then Dionysus got an offer to come to the Virgin Islands and work for a fabulous resort restaurant on St. John.

So Pan got busy and basically sold everything we owned: all of our furniture, 17th century antiques, huge library, art, art, art, artisan-crafted dinnerware, pots, pans, everything.

Our goal: to create a sustainable nomad life.

Just a year after we completed the PCT, we rolled out of Boulder with everything we owned slimmed down to what could fit within a few pieces of luggage we could carry.

We moved to a beautiful villa on the east side of St. John -- on the side of a jungled mountain in sight of the sea. Here we continued the nomad life: hiking, sailing, exploring, botanizing, birding, paddle-boarding, island-hopping, etc.

In September 2014 we leave the island on the way to Europe where we'll be living for awhile. The nomad life is working well, so far. And we're happy.

Pan, Seano, and Dionysus! The Gay Caballeros.

  1. You guys not only have the right attitude but the moxie to carry it out. I applaud you and look forward to hearing about the further adventures of the Gay Caballeros. Boulder misses you!

  2. That is awesome! You've found a way to make the transient nomad life work!

  3. Hi Guys,

Love your blog but what's going on now? I look forward to an update!

  4. Hey Guys,

This is a great blog but what adventures have happened in the last year?? Please update :)

    1. Hi Robin. Guess I'll need to get a new blog going ~ since this one really was so focused on the PCT. We are living as permanent nomads now, and love it. In the past twelve months we went from living in the Virgin Islands to living for awhile in England, Ireland, Turkey, France, and now we're in Scotland on the Isle of Skye (my FB page has the photos). I'm teaching in China in July then we're heading to Mexico. House-sitting + working online = never having to live in one place. Yay!
